Senior Industrial Hygiene Consultant

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Industrial Hygiene Consultant to manage daily operations of our diverse environmental quality and industrial hygiene (IH) consulting services. This role will lead our staff consultants as an integrated team member, write proposals for prospective clients, serve as a subject matter expert, and support aggressive business expansion initiatives. Work will be performed at client sites typically within the Chicagoland area. Our local offices are located in Aurora and Chicago. This is an experienced level role, and the ideal candidate will have a strong background in related consulting services. The Senior IH Consultant will utilize problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify strategic solutions to customer’s environmental quality concerns. This role will report directly to executive management at Indoor Science.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of experienced environmental quality and industrial hygiene consultants
  • Support staff consultants and maintain core business operations, keeping projects on track and driving them to completion
  • Work with management to develop business opportunities through tailored marketing efforts and industry leadership initiatives
  • Assess indoor environmental quality and occupational health concerns at various client sites including, but not limited to, offices, schools, homes, commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, and industrial facilities
  • Perform environmental quality and occupational exposure assessments with a high level of competence
  • Cultivate internal thought leadership through staff mentorship, project scope development, methodology sharing, and repeated demonstration of exceeding client expectations
  • Function as a seller/doer in servicing client needs, preparing proposals, managing projects, maintaining business operations, and supporting staff
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities while delivering responsive, high quality services
  • Discuss and explain service offering with recurring and prospective clients, with both technical accuracy and emotional intelligence
  • Evaluate work environments through various area and personal monitoring strategies to determine compliance against regulatory and recommended occupational exposure levels
  • Act as a subject matter expert for all matters related to industrial hygiene services, including chemical, particulate, biological and physical contaminants
  • Accurately interpret sampling/measurement results, draw conclusions based on assessment findings, provide recommendations for corrective actions, and guide clients to appropriate solutions
  • Speak with prospective clients and describe our services and related costs
  • Maintain and calibrate instruments and equipment
  • Develop high quality written deliverables such as reports, drawings and project specifications
  • Train current and new staff consultants in indoor environmental quality and industrial hygiene practices
  • Support strategic business growth and expansion initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in related field (industrial hygiene, public health, environmental health, occupational safety, biology, chemistry, engineering, etc)
  • 6-10 years of experience in the field of environmental and IH consulting, or similar
  • ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred, ACAC Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC), or similar professional certification required
  • State licenses for hazardous building material assessments and inspections preferred
  • Ability to lead and influence stakeholders towards a common goal
  • Upper-level decision-making skills
  • Expertise in business management and statistical analysis
  • Physically able to crawl, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces such as scaffolding, rooftops, elevated platforms and temporary working surfaces
  • Possess driver’s license and vehicle

Industrial Hygiene Consultant

Job Overview:

We are seeking an Industrial Hygiene Consultant to communicate with prospective clients, conduct IAQ and IH assessments, use professional judgment to interpret information gathered, and write reports summarizing the findings. Work will be performed at client sites typically within the Chicagoland area. The Industrial Hygiene Consultant will utilize problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify strategic solutions to customer’s environmental quality concerns.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assess indoor environments including, but not limited to, homes, offices, schools, public buildings, healthcare facilities, and industrial facilities.
  • Perform visual assessments of indoor environments and identify environmental quality concerns. Explain service offerings with technical accuracy.
  • Use scientific instrumentation and equipment to measure and monitor indoor air quality.
  • Collect various types of samples for identifying indoor environmental contaminants.
  • Evaluate work environments with area and personal monitoring to determine compliance with occupational health and safety rules.
  • Accurately interpret the results of measurements and samples.
  • Understand and navigate regulatory occupational health and safety rules.
  • Draw conclusions based on the findings of the assessment.
  • Provide recommendations for corrective actions for issues discovered.
  • Speak with prospective clients and describe our company offerings and related fees.
  • Write proposals for prospective clients.
  • Maintain and calibrate instruments and equipment. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science (biology, chemistry, geology), industrial hygiene, environmental health, or related field of science.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of environmental and IH consulting or similar.
  • State licenses for asbestos and lead preferred
  • Understand general principles of industrial hygiene.
  • Apply knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical hazards.
  • Understand the fundamentals of toxicology, epidemiology, public health, and environmental sciences.
  • Physically able to crawl, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces such as scaffolding, rooftops, elevated platforms and temporary working surfaces
  • Possess driver’s license and vehicle
